The Signal NT-48 is a professional, multi-function tester designed for the installation, diagnosis and maintenance of telecommunications and IT cabling. The device combines the functions of a wire tester, cable locator, cable length measurer, Ethernet port locator and PoE tester. The large, 3-inch display makes it easy to read measurement results, whilst the use of a digital cable-locating method helps to minimise the impact of interference and random signals when identifying cables. The tester is used, amongst other things, in LAN network installation, the maintenance of structured cabling systems, work in telecoms and IT cabinets and server rooms, and the diagnosis of PoE installations.Key features:The Signal NT-48 enables you to carry out most of the basic diagnostic tasks required when installing and maintaining Ethernet networks:digital cable location, support for UTP and STP cables,RJ45 cable pin sequence testing, break detection,short-circuit detection between wires, detection of incorrectly crossed wires, checking the correct crimping of RJ45 connectors, cable length measurement using the TDR method, measurement of the length of individual pairs, switch or router port location, recognition of 100 Mb/s / 1 Gb/s connections,PoE power diagnostics, measuring PoE voltage, identifying the pairs used for power supply, determining power supply polarity, measuring PoE power whilst under load,non-contact voltage detection (NCV),distinguishing between live and neutral wires,LED torchOne of the device’s key functions is to locate cables within cable harnesses, telecoms cabinets, installation ducts or other locations where it is difficult to determine the exact route of a particular cable. The Signal NT-48 generator transmits a digital signal to the cable under test, which is then detected by the receiving probe. The use of digital transmission increases the measurement’s resistance to interference and reduces the likelihood of false signals being detected. The receiver features sensitivity adjustment. As the probe is moved closer to the correct cable, the signal level and the volume of the audible alert increase. A silent mode is also available. The tester allows you to switch between UTP and STP cable detection modes, meaning it can be used with both unshielded and shielded cables. The device supports, amongst others, the following cables:RJ45 – computer twisted-pair cable,RJ11 – telephone cables,BNC – video cables when used with a suitable adapter, other low-voltage cables. The Signal NT-48 allows you to check the connection sequence of all the wires in a network cable. The tester analyses pins 1–8 and the S shield, enabling the detection of the most common installation problems. The device recognises, amongst other things:correct straight-through connection,cross-connected,break in one or more conductors, short circuit between conductors, incorrect connection sequence, continuity of the cable shieldAdditional terminators for the meter can be purchased separately for the tester to identify multiple N7049 twisted-pair cables. The tester also indicates whether the pin configuration allows the cable to be used for 100 Mb/s or 1 Gb/s data transmission. The tester can be used to quickly check that an RJ45 connector has been crimped correctly. This function is particularly useful immediately after the plug has been assembled. The transmitter can detect a fault near the connector from as close as approximately 10 cm along the cable, whilst the receiver can do so from approximately 1 m away. If the correct pin number is not displayed, this indicates that a particular wire may have been crimped incorrectly. This enables the installer to quickly locate the problem at the cable terminus without having to carry out more time-consuming diagnostics on the entire installation.Cable length measurement – TDR. The meter is equipped with a function for measuring the length of network cables. The measurement range is from 1 to 600 m. The measurement accuracy is specified as: cable length × 3% ±1 m. The measurement is performed on an open or short-circuited cable. The other end of the cable under test should not be connected to an active device during the measurement.Once the test is complete, the meter displays the results for each pair: 1–2, 3–6, 4–5 and 7–8. The result can be shown in metres or feet.Port Flash – switch port location. This function enables you to quickly locate the switch or router port to which the cable under test is connected. When the function is activated, the device generates a signal that causes the indicator light on the relevant port of the network device to flash in a distinctive pattern. This allows you to identify the correct port without having to disconnect other cables in the telecoms cabinet. At the same time, the tester detects the connection speed and can display:100 Mb/s,1 Gb/s,invalid connection. This feature is particularly useful in large rack-mounted cabinets, where a single switch is connected to many cables t
